 Are scratchbuilders a dying breed?

By David Fuller, Editor - RCScratchbuilders.com

About a month or so ago, a thread appeared in the Scratchbuilt Foamies section RCGroups.com entitled Are scratchbuilders a dying breed? That title alone struck me. The comment by the original poster involved a conversation that he had at his local hobby store. The owner made a crack that "[scratchbuilders are] dinosaurs... no one scratchbuilds anymore."

"Hmmm...,'No one?'" I thought to myself. "I don't think that's exactly the case, judging from the healthy activity in the scratchbuild forums."   continued....

The Rebel KF Trainer Plane

By Donald Ferguson, Asst. Editor - RCScratchbuilders.com

Rebel KF Trainer plane in flightThe Rebel KF left the fingers like a dove leaving the hands of a magician. Its electric motor pulling her steadily skyward. Gaining altitude, she slowly banked to the left, as if wanting to look below. He was looking up, smiling, wishing he was flying beside her, darting, diving, soaring. Such freedom only known to birds has been man's desire for thousands of years.

Such is the case with the Rebel KF trainer. It relishes this freedom, it WANTS to fly, and you can make it happen all your own. You only need a few tools, some foam sheet material, and a desire to learn to fly. A desire to control the Rebel KF, make her go where you point her, to enjoy the pleasures of flight. To be like Ikarus. continued....

Well, either way you look at it - plane first or motor first - you'll eventually need to know some important data about the motor / propellor combination you use with a given battery. And the way to do that is with a thrust stand. continued...
